This is called "any fandom ever". Really. I'm not sure it's physically possible to be in a fandom where things like that don't happen. And if such a fandom does exist, it must be preserved for scientific study.
Personally, I prefer to collect a whole list of reasons for complaining about arcs. Just having one is silly. XD
Because humans are made to breed, and breeding is associated with sex and romance. And since children shonen series show little or nothing at all on a person's romantic life, some people feel the need to speculate or write on what it is.
Yeah, that's definitely one of the sillier reasons for someone to dislike an entire arc. Most of my annoyance with Season III stems just from contradictions, a meandering, all-over-the-place storyline and general lazy writing -- especially when compared to Season II.
I liked Avatar -- but mostly for its stunning visuals and for the epic soundtrack (must get my hands on that one of these days). Just be warned that you'll be able to see the twists in the storyline minutes before they actually arrive.
As what said above, such pettiness resides in all fandom. Even fandoms you never thought were really fandoms. Such is the internet. I find it's best to just have a laugh at it's expense?
Welcome to the world! Anything you like will also be liked by people you can't stand; any class you take will have people you can't stand; any job you take will force you to interact with people you just want to punch in the face. And sometimes, they'll choose to do things based on reasons you don't like or can't understand. Don't take their attitudes as a personal offense.
Because you reside in the same fandom as people who won't give the sequels even the slightest chance and bash them at any and all opportunity just because Bakura/Kaiba/Jounonchi/Atem doesn't feature prominently. Amazing how that works!

Oh god yes, the movie made my eyes melt off. And yeah it was predicable, save for one person's face heel turn

Avatar's really good, but it's best to see it in 3D.
