So me and my mom are babbling about our favorite stories and whatnot and I bring up Silent Hill. Which in my mind, has fascinating story and very thought provoking at that.

I get to about two sentences of explaining the premise and she already decides its out there. That did not bother me as Silent Hill is out there and not for everyone certainly.

What did bother me is that she believes that the gore and overall gruesome tone was placed solely to attract the male audience. And I could dump a garbage truck of teal deer and spoilers here about how its symbolic and tied to the story. It wouldn't be the same without it and yet she still claimed it could have been removed without losing part of the story.

*sigh* In other news I made a 74 on a math test, not bad not good but better then I expected.

Pfff, as soon as my mom hears about blood and guts she automatically assumes that watching that kind of stuff will be bad for me and I should not watch it because it will traumatize me for life, etc., etc.

Moooom, I'm almost an adult now. And I've seen real-life surgery. And anyways, it's not like it isn't stuff I see on the news every day. You don't get pissy at me for watching that at six in the morning. B/

...I hate math. Ever since I took Honors Geometry in 8th grade I've always hated math. I am soooo glad I don't have to take it any more for my major. :D! So I say: Good job! At least you didn't fail! ^^

Yeah, trust me I've had most of my innocence soiled black by now. Nothing much scares or terrorizes me nowadays.

Ehhh news tends to censor anything thats gore but I see your point.

Oh hell yes, thank god its only Statistics, which is kinda not math but still 8|

I have a very vivid imagination. I can take a description and make a picture in my mind. So yeah, watching the news for me is the same as most violent video games. :D

Oh, Stat. How I wish I had taken you instead of Calculus. Then my AP Credits would have been so much more easily earned without shattering my GPA~

I had a similar conversation about Watchmen. It's really violent and gory, but it's symbolic, yet Jane just thinks it can be taken out and still be the same.

How did I miss this beautiful post about one of my favourite stories of all time?

I agree that Silent Hill (1 and 2, at least. And maybe 0rigins) had absolutely wonderful stories. SH1 was so very very heart breaking, as was SH2. The second is my favourite in the series, by far, with 0rigins being a close second. I think, however, that 0rigins was trying to hard to mimic SH2, what with the outpouring of sexual references and a protagonist that just happens to be spoilers.

Kind of like James was in SH2. Which is the maddening thing because the WHAT A TWEEST comes out of effing no where, and despite the fact that he spoilers (no matter what ending you get), you can't help but to feel sorry for him because he genuinely seems to feel remorse. And the fact that he forgets also seems to lead to a sense of guilt and regret, because, hell, he blocked it out.

I have yet to finish Silent Hill 2 or start on Origins, but I agree. Silent Hill 1 had a wonderful story centering around Alessa's abuse and her world created for comfort to her.

Yess twists coming out of the blue are awesome. Kind of like homecoming and the possible alternate way you could picture Alex.
